Moran Logistics is a UK-based temperature-controlled logistics provider specialising in the distribution of chilled and ambient food products. Operating a national fleet of tractor units and refrigerated trailers, the business is providing services to some of the largest food manufacturers and food retailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What sets Moran apart is a deliberate, technology-first approach to operations. The goal: to be flexible enough to create bespoke solutions for each customer, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Rather than just offering a one-size-fits-all solution, we try to create a solution that works for us, but also works for our customers,”<\/em> says James.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How they found Qargo<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

James came to Qargo through a structured TMS evaluation, assessing several platforms side by side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And shared that Qargo stood out on the things that mattered most: ease of use, the quality and customisability of the driver app, multilingual support for a diverse workforce, and the fact that it was a modern, cloud-based platform \u2014 not a legacy system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The fact that you weren’t a legacy system was a key standout really,”<\/em> James says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driver app’s language flexibility proved particularly important. With a diverse team of drivers, being able to offer the app in multiple languages \u2014 and seeing that list grow over time \u2014 made a real operational difference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The challenge<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before Qargo, Moran Logistics was running a significant operation on spreadsheets. Everything \u2014 planning, tracking, invoicing, driver pay \u2014 was handled manually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We had the spreadsheet and we had telematics to track the trucks, but they’re not linked together,” <\/em>James explains. “You can’t see your delivery progress. Everything’s kind of just hand-cranked \u2014 tracking the truck, seeing where it is, what time it got there, then typing it in.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Invoicing was equally time-consuming, as was calculating driver hours and managing subcontractor work. For a business with major customers requiring precise, real-time delivery data \u2014 and with a growing fleet across multiple depots \u2014 this way of working wasn’t sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The onboarding experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moran’s onboarding was phased across multiple sites over several months \u2014 with Oswestry serving as the initial test bed before Leeds went live in January 2026. The journey involved a large number of moving parts: multiple depots and a complex integration build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qargo\u2019s onboarding manager was on site for the Leeds go-live \u2014 covering the day shift while James covered nights. The pair debriefed each evening, working through any issues together before the next day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leeds was fully live within five working days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driver adoption \u2014 initially the biggest concern \u2014 turned out to be one of the smoothest parts. The combination of pre-go-live briefings, guides, and a highly customised app meant that within 48 hours, the feedback was largely positive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not a single delivery was missed as a result of the go-live.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solution<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Qargo replaced the spreadsheets with a connected, automated platform that now sits at the centre of Moran’s operations across their Oswestry and Leeds depots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most impactful changes has been real-time delivery visibility. A large screen on the operations wall now shows all active stops \u2014 how long drivers have been on site, live progress, and alerts when a stop is overrunning. Information that they receive from Qargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It just really helps us to modernise the operation and improve efficiency in different places and gather information that previously we had to wait for a driver to come back to share.” <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driver communication has also been transformed. Questions and requirements are set dynamically in the driver app based on the customer \u2014 so when drivers are on a customer specific route, they’re prompted for exactly the right information: arrival times, departure times, store-specific reference numbers. That data is then exported directly, cutting out a manual keying task that previously required a dedicated person to work through every trip sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moran has also put Qargo Intelligence to work in a distinctive way \u2014 using automated tagging rules to visually classify route types on the planning screen. Milk routes, pallet routes, and night-out routes are each colour-coded automatically based on set conditions, giving planners an immediate at-a-glance view of the day’s work without any manual sorting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For drivers, the app had to be simple enough to pick up in five minutes \u2014 essential for a fleet that includes agency drivers who might work a single shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Integrations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moran Logistics has worked with Qargo to build a bespoke integration set up \u2014 connecting multiple systems to create a fully automated operational flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A customers\u2019 planning system sends routes to Qargo twice daily via API. Orders auto-allocate to a dummy truck via resource allocation rules, then planners assign real drivers and dispatch \u2014 a highly efficient flow for a fixed, high-volume customer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plus, a bespoke middleware solution (built with Jitterbit) triggers automated phone calls to specific stores with delivery ETAs as drivers progress through routes \u2014 with confirmation of the call logged back against the stop in Qargo, visible to the customer via their portal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also connect their telematics for real-time visibility, fleet management system, and compliance\/driver management systems to sync resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Final thoughts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Moran’s next priorities are bringing their Castle Donington and Doncaster depots live on Qargo \u2014 with the Doncaster site introducing pallet network operations into the mix, adding a new dimension to how they use the platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond that, the team are beginning to explore the full potential of BigQuery and Power BI reporting, pulling Qargo’s operational data into dashboards that will drive smarter decisions across the business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
