It\u2019s a telling sign that when a business solution is failing to deliver, you start looking for alternatives \u2013 even without being asked by management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s what happened to Transport Solutions Domain Lead, Matt Dweh, at global logistics and trade management giant Uniserve. A \u00a31.6 billion business with 89 group companies, it provides shipping, air and road freight services, as well as end-to-end warehousing and logistics solutions to clients across the world. And that means serious logistical challenges day in, day out \u2013 especially within the Uniserve\u2019s road freight division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Matt was spending a great deal of time supporting the internal teams and the challenges they faced on a daily basis with the current transport systems. In fact, the gaps in functionality had reached a breaking point: \u201cI had already started looking at alternate solutions before I was even asked because of the ongoing negative experience and frustration,\u201d recalls Matt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fresh start<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During Matt\u2019s time conducting his \u2018extracurricular\u2019 research, he discovered Qargo and was impressed with its capabilities and UI. Then, once Uniserve\u2019s newly appointed Transport Operations Director Gordon McCormick had arrived, the green light was given to officially source a replacement for Uniserve\u2019s existing transport systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cArranging logistics is like putting together a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle each and every day,\u201d explains Gordon, \u201cand we needed a solution that would make this puzzle-solving process quicker, slicker and more cost effective. Plus have a solution that actually worked<\/em>.\u201d Matt immediately recommended they take a closer look at Qargo as a replacement alongside other potential TMS providers as part of a comprehensive vetting process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stand out<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, Matt arranged to speak with over 10 providers \u2013 but they only served to deepen his interest in Qargo: \u201cAll the providers wanted to arrange Teams Meetings,\u201d Matt explains. \u201cBut Qargo stood out by requesting a face-to-face meeting immediately. And that\u2019s important because you can judge and read people far better in real life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the real question was \u2013 would Gordon find the solution as convincing? \u201cMatt had told me about his initial meeting with Qargo,\u201d says Gordon, \u201cso we agreed to meet at the CV Show where Qargo had a stand. I was blown away by the product and critically, by the people, too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real deal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gordon was won over by a tech demo at a subsequent meeting. \u201cIt was the advancements the team had made to the solution since we\u2019d last met that showed Qargo was the real deal, and not yet another case of the Emperor\u2019s new clothes,\u201d he recalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as importantly, as an industry veteran, Gordon is well-used to presentations being dressed up as \u2018live demos\u2019 when, in reality, they simply follow a highly-scripted process. \u201cAgain, Qargo was different,\u201d says Gordon. \u201cI was throwing out different scenarios and the Qargo team was setting them up and creating results on the fly. That told me the system could deliver what Qargo said it could.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The confidence of the Qargo team in its system was sky high \u2013 and after seeing the demos, I could understand why.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Winning over<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, there were some natural reservations: \u201cSome were asking if we should proceed as Qargo was a relatively new business. What is its longevity? How risky is this?,\u201d recalls Gordon. Both he and Matt though could see how quickly other companies were being onboarded at Qargo. This left Gordon concerned that if they rejected Qargo, they risked sitting down in a year\u2019s time and thinking: \u201cWe really should have gone with them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To cement support for Qargo, Matt arranged demos across the business. He recalls, \u201cwhenever we put anyone in front of the system, they loved it and bought into it there and then.\u201d Gordon had similar success with a senior director at one of Uniserve\u2019s group businesses who was on the cusp of signing with another provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI drove 200 miles to see him and urge him to check out Qargo,\u201d says Gordon. \u201cOnce he had seen the system with a number of his team, it made them seriously reconsider their options, and Qargo was subsequently adopted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having a good product behind me just makes my life so much easier. I know from personal experience there\u2019s nothing worse than having a product that is not fit for purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Integrations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matt is especially pleased with Qargo\u2019s deep level of integration, which allows the many different systems used by Uniserve\u2019s clients to be successfully integrated using Qargo\u2019s powerful APIs. He\u2019s also been won over by the solution\u2019s OCR reader: \u201cQargo can read a PDF or an email instantly. It\u2019s as simple as dragging and dropping the file into the system, and all the key information is extracted automatically.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uniserve have also integrated Samsara\u2019s telematics software to get real-time fleet visibility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“One of the key benefits of integrating Samsara with Qargo has been the enhanced visibility across our fleet. By combining Samsara’s telematics data with Qargo’s transport management capabilities, we have access to real-time vehicle tracking, ETA updates, fuel levels, and mileage information directly within our operational workflows. Having this level of visibility helps our teams make more informed decisions and provides greater oversight of fleet performance.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team at Samsara are also pleased with how the partnership has unfolded. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Future potential<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, Gordon remains very happy with Qargo. Not only for the capabilities it will unlock for Uniserve\u2019s road freight operations \u2013 but its potential impact on the company\u2019s entire infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe believe Qargo can deliver other opportunities for us,\u201d explains Gordon. \u201cIn the long term, we want to explore ways to capture all kinds of transport transactional data with the system. It will give us ultimate visibility so we can analyse and improve our offering to our customers even further.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also believes the business model offered by Qargo is a genuine game-changer. Unlike traditional providers, Qargo\u2019s fees are based solely on Uniserve\u2019s revenue turnover. Gordon explains: \u201cIt\u2019s really simple \u2013 the more we grow our revenue via the product, the more Qargo benefits because its pay is linked to this increase in revenue. In other words, it\u2019s a win-win scenario for both Uniserve and Qargo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My big hope?
